Gantt chart: subtasks and dependent tasks do not behave as expected

Post by rh@syconics.de »

Dear Sergey,

the new Gantt chart seems not behaving as expected to me for the following reasons:

1.) If a parent task is moved (start-date forward or backward) the subtasks don't move automatically accordingly. This results in subtasks exceeding the boundaries of the parent task. subtasks should never exceed the boundaries of a parent task.

2.) If tasks have dependencies to another task and this task is moved (start-date changes), all depending tasks should move accordingly. Why else should I specify dependencies in project management if dependencies aren't resolved changing timelines? This is standard behavior in all other project management tools I know.

As far as I know, the new Gantt supports all these requirements. What do You think about making use of the new possibilities? I think in this case it makes sense to implement "duration" and "offset" fields to projects and tasks tables.

Best regards
Reinhard
