This could be implemented as a new action in automated actions (admin specifies template and target attachment field).
We have a workflow where documents are auto-created based on a template, but often the documents need to be modified before they can be printed. Currently, the user downloads the Word file and makes the necessary changes, but then he needs to upload the file again to document the final version.
